I read it to children many, many times, while a librarian at our small town library. This is my favortie children's book, of all time.
have you noticed the anger and hate in some people's postings of their opinions of reviews (look at the reviews that gave this book a 1)Oh my goodness, they're just mean spirited. then they're stronger to handle whatever comes their way.p.s. (just rolls off their shoulders) I'd choose that over being negative.

Alexander is a big sourpuss.I was hoping he'll get better, but no, he starts off a grouch and he's still a grouch when the book ends.Teaching kids to complain about pretty much everything.

I knew these people shouldn't have read this book.People, please be nice, this is just my humble opinion of this book and opinions are okay, no big deal, just let it roll of your shoulders, take a breath, smile and think happy thoughts. If you like kind, nice, happy children who grow up to become nice, kind, happy adults, I suggest something more heartwarming like Corduroy (40th Anniversary Edition) or something where they can learn something they can use in the real world like Tickety TockNobody likes a grouch--can we say annoying.

I have never had a problem with Amazon before. I did not receive this book. I paid, but have written and explained that I didn't get it.
I can't imagine what the writer was thinking. I purchased this for my grandkids, but they never saw it. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Absolute garbage. My husband and I read the book and tossed it in the trash. There was no good message, no encouragement.
This is the title that got my 6 and 7 year olds hooked on Judith Viorst and other Alexander books. When a young boy is frustrated, treated unfairly or suffers from bad luck, he can turn to this book for comfort and a grin. The pictures are fun, the writing is very good and the story line is great.
